We are a family of three in transition. We spent years being frugal and are now at a crossroad. We'd like to retire from our day jobs in two years or less. Our retirement goals are to provide our daughter with the best education she desires; travel; and find new careers - perhaps part-time that we really enjoy. I hope to post both "frugal" and "personal finance" information. NOTE: I am not a professional on either subject. My posts are purely entertainment :)

Frugal deeds for the day: We are going to a local museum today. Search for free museum admission - today only and print out a ticket. I have already started "grocery management" of the Angel Food haul. I have a big pot of chicken corn chowder going - chicken, onion, potatoes - all part of the box. Tomorrow, I will have my dad over for dinner to share in some more of the bounty. I will probably visit the store tomorrow for a few must have items, toilet paper being one of them. After the museum visit, we plan to visit the mall. My daughter received a few giftcards as gifts and we have printed off % off coupons to match. She can build up her winter wardrobe.

Frugal deeds for the week: A local thriftstore had a coupon in the local coupon mailing (first I have ever seen) - a bag of clothing for $3. I got a nice bag of clothing and some juice glasses for $3 plus tax. Tomorrow, my husband is picking up 2 shares of Angel Food Ministries food. The selection of food was great. Check out www.angelfoodministries.com - income is not a criteria. Also, in the mail today, I got more 1/2 price gift certificates for Domino's Pizza . . . in $5 increments. This weekend, I plan to paint the small guess bathroom with the freebie paint I got from Sherwin Williams. I also plan to put together another box of consignment items. Also, I received a "survey" and "inventory list" for our beach rental condo. The juice glasses are headed there. Also, I am trying to figure out the most frugal way to make the few "repairs" and procure the items on the inventory list. Some item, I have extras in my own cupboards. Fortunately, for the missing utensils, I have an extra box of the same pattern - purchased years ago for almost nothing at a Target clearance sale.

Frugal deeds for the day: Today, we plan to use our 1/2 priced ($30) art museum membership card and see the new exhibit. My husband used the 10% Lowes coupon at Home Depot and purchased tile for bathroom. It is a diy job. Trying to get the house in the best shape possible in case we want to sell/rent. Normally, I do not stop at Dollar General. Wow, I did find some bargains today - $1 strawberry preserves, 2.5 lbs of bananas for $1, etc. So, I rounded out my groceries there today.

Frual Deed for today: I signed my daughter for a seminar to help her decide on a career and for me to be enlightened on ways to prepare her and reduce costs of an education. We spent 6.5 hours there - both in different seminars. I got lots of great information and she had a wonderful experience. To my surprise, the event cost $0. I was expecting to pay "something" for registering. They even served a very nice lunch and gave my daughter a nice backpack filled with goodies. I'd have to say, it was very frugal.

Frugal deeds for the week: After school on Tuesday, I took my daughter to Ulta and we were both able to get a free tube of mascara - the good stuff. I sold several books on half.com and took 13 items to the consignment store. I had a dentist appointment near Aldi, and stocked up on some nice bargains. Can't beat their prices on perishables.

Frugal deeds for the week: I picked up 2 checks from the thrift store and brought home 2 more forms to consign more stuff. The neighbors gave us fresh tomatoes, parsley, basil, and thyme. They will be used to make several meals. We've had pasta once and will probably have it again - but I just looked up a recipe for foccacia on allrecipes.com too. I received 2 freebie coupons in the mail - so, will probably use them at Publix tomorrow to get my $10 purchase and the 1 cent mystery item. The free items were for a package of feminine products and the other Kashi cereal. Hope they have them available. And of course, I want to buy a few things - but we are still concentrating on using ingredients from the pantry/fridge/freezer first.

Labor Day greetings. While my husband bbq'd, I used stuff up. I made Chili Rellano casserole with the remaining peppers a co-worker gave me and stuff out of the pantry/fridge. Also a sweet potato casserole - using up marshmallows, etc. And eggplant parmigiana. My dad brought a cake. We are stuffed and have plenty of leftovers for lunches and dinners for the next couple of days. Hurray to no cooking for a few days. Today, I also checked the back recesses of the bathroom cabinets. I was out of shampoo. I found a bottle and a bunch of travel sized ones. My husband thought he had to run to the grocery store for BBQ sauce - I found one in the pantry. So, I saved a trip to the store and things are getting used up.

Frugal Deeds for the week: We may be moving. So, I applied for the 10% off coupon from Lowe's. I am hoping with Labor Day Sales and coupon, we can get some "projects" around the house done less expensively. I am also going to concentrate on us eating up stuff from the pantry. We listed some DVDs on half.com and they are selling relatively quickly. Need to take another load to the consignment shop and pick-up a check.
