We are a family of three in transition. We spent years being frugal and are now at a crossroad. We'd like to retire from our day jobs in two years or less. Our retirement goals are to provide our daughter with the best education she desires; travel; and find new careers - perhaps part-time that we really enjoy. 4/3 Expressions
What did I do that was frugal today? I made laundry detergent by slowly boiling soap shavings and water in a ex-coffee can and dumping the concoction into an "old" laundry soap container.
I have tried the soap - and must say, it is not very pretty (kind of slimey looking). But as far as how it works, it is working fine. I quit using softener last year - although I do have a few sheets left. I heard that you can dampen a wash cloth in a mixture of water and cheap hair conditioner to replace softener.

Have you tried the soap yet? Do you still use softner or not? I have never tried making my own soap yet but I do make my own cleaners.
